Since 1991, Main Street Union City has the been the
catalyst for growth in the downtown sector. To be successful, the organization
has:
- Partnered with Obion County Chamber of Commerce in the purchase
and restoration of the Historical Railroad Depot.
- Restored and replicated period lighting around the railroad depot.
- Initiated production of historical pewter ornaments in order to raise
monies and to commemorate the historical buildings in Union City.
- Received a Tree Grant of $20,000.00 to plant 122 trees in the city
and on city parking lots.
- Hosts an annual auction which raises between $10,000 to $13,000.
- Donated $13,000.00 to the Masquerade Theatre for exterior renovation.
- Established a low interest loan program.
- Received an Energy Efficiency grant for Main Street Members.
- Received a grant to place 6 properties and 2 districts on the National
Register of Historic Places.
- Installed decorative stop/yield signs in the downtown area with fundraising
dollars.
- Directly assists Main Street business owners by:
- Providing shrubs for city parking lot
- Promoting the opening of new businesses
- Assisting store owners on color schemes for exterior
- Utilizing three to one match with store to restore historical
facade of buildings
- Sponsoring Chalk Art Contests in conjunction with Fall Fest to
promote downtown.
